Happy Belated St Paddy's! Hangover Cures, Anyone?

As a continuation from my previous post, I know should be writing about the natural products that I've used and am using but I couldn't resist writing a post as a tribute to the Friendliest Day of the Day.

For the celebration here in Kuala Lumpur, Changkat Bukit Bintang was closed for a street party and there is the Annual Ball at the KL Hilton organised by the St Patrick's Society of Selangor which I've been attending for a few years now courtesy of my Irish hubby. Impressively, this ball in KL is the biggest in the world (outside the USA, Ireland and the UK) with around 1000 guests in attendance and tickets are always sold out.

Irish or not, everyone, everywhere wants a piece of the action which stems from a thousand year history. From the colourful parade in Dublin, to the riot in Canada, the dyeing of the Chicago River green, the green fountain at the White House, green Leaning Tower of Pisa, green lighting at the Sydney Opera House and the world's biggest dinner ball in Malaysia, don't even begin to try and comprehend the amount of Guinness (or Kilkenny, Jameson, Baileys: pick your poison) involved. Attempting that feat is tantamount to the same degree of headache you got from downing all those booze in the first place and then trying figure out why your head hurts.

Given the belated nature of the title of this post, it is only befitting that I write something belated to the event: hangover cures. Yes, a little too belated but given the amount of drinks involved, it would be no surprise that some of your hangovers has still continued to hang over you (excuse the bad pun). I've compiled a list of hangover cures that are categorised weird, yummy or easy-peasy.

WEIRD HANGOVER CURES
The Irish Cure
Since this hangover business started with the Irish anyway, I thought it only appropriate to start off the list with it's namesake. Simply bury the drunk subject in moist river sand up to the neck. Err, in that cold Irish weather, surely one would instantly sober up to be stuck in cold damp soil.

Buffalo Milk
I don't like milk to begin with so thought of it would probably make my hangover worse but turns out it's only a name for the hangover-cure beverage (like how a Bloody Mary contains neither blood nor Mary). After a night long of partying, folks in Namibia put together a booze float consisting of ice-cream, dark rum, spiced rum, cream liqueur and whole cream.

Native American Cure
Go for a run, lick the sweat off your arm, then spit it out. Maaaaaaybe not....

 The Way Genghis Rolled
In outer Mongolia, all you need is a pair of pickled sheep eyeballs and a glass of tomato juice. Any takers?

Voodoo
In Haiti, voodoo practitioners apparently recommend sticking 13 black pins into the cork of the bottle in question. What happens if it's a screw top?

Tripe Soup
Depending on where you're from some of you may not consider this weird. I personally love the chinese white pepper tripe soup or tripe in the chinese herbal soup known as Bak Kut Teh. For your hangover however, you have a choice of Turkish or Mexican. The Turkish recipe serves the cure boiled with garlic and cream while the Mexican version is spiced up with chilli and garlic.

YUMMY HANGOVER CURES
Bloody Mary
Fight booze with booze. This classic hair-of-the-dog choice is no stranger to many veteran drinkers. This spicy tomato cocktail helps take the edge off your hangover.

Banana Milkshake
Yum! Combine one banana with 1/2cup milk plus some ice-cubes. This potent potion is packed with Vitamin B and helps your body replenish from your overindulgence.

Greasy Food
Go on then and order your full Irish Breakfast. Certainly not the healthiest choice but neither is an alcohol binge, so what the heck, right? Extreme situations calls for extreme measures.

Eggs Benedict
In 1894, New York socialite Samuel Benedict woke up with a nasty hangover after a night of partying and requested that the Waldolf Astoria Hotel staff cook him this recipe he made up; poached eggs on half an English muffin topped with bacon and Hollandaise sauce.

EASY-PEASY HANGOVER CURES
Don't Forgo Your H20
Since alcohol dehydrates you, drink lots of water to replenish before you hit the hay.

Berocca
Helps put back the the Vitamin B you lost.

Fruit Juice
Especially Orange juice for the Vitamin C.

Vegemite or Peanut Butter on Toast
Vegemite gives you a Vitamin B top up whilst Peanut Butter is similar to the greasy food concept.

Sports Drink
To replenish the electrolytes.
